ISRAELI PAVILION, WORLD EXPO2012, YEOSU, SOUTH KOREA
Designed and produced by DISKIN, the Israeli Pavilion at the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu, South Korea, was an innovative mobile app provided visitors an interactive underwater view of the wonders of the sea.
The Israeli Pavilion, titled the ‘Sea of Inspiration,’ included a breathtaking underwater odyssey. Israel’s marine offerings were presented in an exciting, interactive way, as reflected in its technology, science, education, culture, and environment. The aesthetic façade of the pavilion was designed by the well-known Israeli lighting artist, Ayala Zarfati, to highlight the theme of the pavilion and attract visitors to it.
Visitors entered the Sea of Inspiration through an illuminated corridor decorated with pictures of marine activity in Israel – an expedition along the Mediterranean coast, water-skiing on the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret), floating in the Dead Sea, and scuba diving in the Red Sea – gradually drawing them into the depths of the structure. This section of the pavilion also emphasized the rich variety of water attractions in Israel, among them ancient archaeological sites below the waves, special artworks inspired by the sea, and water sports.
